About Us
Our amazing volunteers entirely run critter Care Adoptions. We carefully screen potential new adopters and place all dogs in foster homes instead of a kennel or shelter. Fostering gives the dogs the best chance of quickly adapting to their new home.
Because CCA believes in high-quality veterinary care, we have a licensed veterinarian on our Board of Directors.
If you’re looking for an adoptable small or medium dog and live within a 2-hour drive from Evans City, PA, please consider adopting your next dog from us. Some of our dogs have special needs and are super seniors, so please let us know if you want to learn more about them.
Critter Care Adoptions is…
- A non-profit 501(c)3 organization
- A NO-KILL rescue dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and unwanted dogs.
- A place where all our dogs are placed in foster homes. Fostering provides us the best opportunity to evaluate the dog’s personality and match the dog to the right permanent home.
- Primarily an adoptable small dog and medium dog rescue (typically under 40 pounds).
We’re Different Because…
- We do as much as possible to get our rescued small and medium dogs healthy before placing them in their forever home.
- Our veterinarian is on our Board of Directors and is directly involved with the care of our dogs.
- Our veterinary care is very comprehensive.
- We believe placing all of our dogs into foster homes offers them the best chance for successful permanent adoptions.
- We are cautious and selective when placing our dogs into their permanent homes.
- We are upfront about any health concerns our adoptable small, and adoptable medium dogs may have.
- We perform a very thorough check of all potential adopters including an extensive veterinary record review.
- We require personal references for all of our likely adoptive parents.
What We Do
Rescue Dogs
We take dogs that need to find a loving home. We have an extensive adoption process because we want to make sure our dogs are the right fit for your family, and your family is the right fit for our dogs. We are not afraid to take our time finding our dogs a home.
Spay & Neuter
Many of our animals come to us intact. Shelters and rescues have a responsibility to limit the pet population because there are millions of unwanted dogs. According to Pawsome Advice, only 1 out of every 10 dogs will find a permanent home. But, you can help us. Consider adopting a dog from us today.
Provide Additional Treatment
Adopt a dog from us, because here’s what your dog will have:
- A complete exam and treatment from our veterinarian
- Deworming
- Up-to-date medications
- Dental if needed
- Preventative heartworm & flea medication
- Up-to-date shots
Find Homes
We focus on finding permanent homes for dogs. Identifying furever homes isn’t always easy as you’ll see by our success story, Chip.
We are committed to discovering the right dog for the right home. We know there are many loving families looking for a dog.
Have you considered an adult or senior dog? If you haven’t, you should!
Adult and senior dogs are usually:
- Potty trained
- Have some basic training
- Good for your home, good for your health
Dog Adoption Process
- Dog adoption fees are $250 – $400 (depending on the dog). All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on shots, de-wormed, and on preventive heartworm & flea medication and have had a dental if needed.
- We do not adopt any of our dogs to a home with unaltered pets (all pets must be spayed/neutered).
- We ask for copies of clinical vet records for current and previous pets for a minimum of the past six years. We like to ensure that our dogs receive proper medical care, including annual vet exams, current vaccinations, preventive heartworm and flea medicine, etc. Please let your vet’s office know we will contact them and give them permission to release information about your pets.
- We ask for three personal references.
- You must own your home or have landlord permission to have a dog.
- A meet and greet is required between the new dog and all prospective family members, including any current animals.
- We typically try to adopt within about a 120-mile radius (or 2 hours) from Evans City, PA. It is our policy to deliver our dogs to their new homes.
- It can take 3 to 6 weeks to complete the adoption process. It depends on how quickly we can get your vet records and have our vet review them. Please allow 7 to 10 days from the time you submit your application to hear from us. We are a tiny rescue group run entirely by volunteers, so we can’t always turn things around as quickly as a more formal shelter.
Application Process
Applying does not guarantee we will choose you and your family to adopt a dog.
Critter Care Adoptions has the right to refuse adoption for any reason up to and including the day of the scheduled adoption.
The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an adoption application.
Donations
We operate exclusively on the generosity of donations. If you’d like to donate, please click the “Donate” button to take you to PayPal to complete your monetary gift. Thank you in advance; for your kindness. We appreciate it because this helps us find more great homes for many dogs that need them.

We Believe that…
- Adopting a dog takes a lot of thought, care, and discussion.
- Adopting a dog is a 12-18 year commitment and may require a solid financial sacrifice for unseen problems or a medical emergency.
- Dogs are part of the family’s permanent home, and we expect our adopters to give their new dog as much consideration as you would for any other family member.
We Expect that…
Any dog adopted from CCA will receive annual veterinary exams, vaccines, preventative medicine, and emergency care as needed. Physical exams are just as important for dogs as they are for humans. Being proactive with your dog’s health care needs can often detect medical conditions early, determine the best treatment options and prolong your dog’s life span.
CCA offers opportunities for adoptable small dogs and adoptable medium dogs to find their furever homes.
Our dogs go to their new home with the best start possible. They’ve received:
- A complete exam and treatment from our veterinarian
- Deworming
- Up-to-date medications
- Surgery to be spayed or neutered
Critter Care Adoptions
A Success Story
Chip came to us as a dog who was ‘food aggressive.’ We don’t know much about his background, but we quickly learned that it must have been horrifying. Chip was scared, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. This little guy was apparently never touched or shown any love.
After learning about his aggression, we knew what we needed to do. We needed to spoil him and show him what it was like to be loved and be someone’s pet. It took a little while to earn his trust, but we saw a completely different little Chihuahua dude once we did!
He blossomed into the world and started to enjoy what he was experiencing. He became a total lover, giving many kisses, playing with toys, and running around in complete bliss. Chip was lucky enough to be adopted into a wonderful home.
This family has experience with the breed and was more than willing to work with him and look beyond his shortcomings. Within a few days, he opened up to them and is learning to love and enjoy them. They are a perfect fit for each other! We are so happy for this little guy.
